The Gold Coast City Council has held talks with traffic engineers to formulate a plan to bring the light rail into Robina and connect major local infrastructure including Cbus Super Stadium, Bond University and Robina Town Centre.
Mayor Tom Tate said this route was expected to be fast-tracked to support the increasing growth of the city, particularly around central areas such as Robina. “This is now part of our long-term budget and the way we are looking ahead because it is a cost-effective way of getting around the city,” he said.
Robina Councillor Hermann Vorster said the light rail would further solidify Robina as a prime education area. “This would give us the opportunity to link all three universities together to create a knowledge triangle unrivalled anywhere on the continent,” he said.
Mayor Tom Tate said the rail network will also help with the development of Robina City Parklands. “We are going to see plenty of growth around Robina near the stadium which will be key in activating our city’s Green Heart parkland project.”
